In april 2025, AlgaeCenter Denmark invited its network members to a workshop on seaweed cultivation technologies—and it was fantastic to experience the value of meeting in person and sharing knowledge and experiences! First and foremost, a big thank you to everyone who attended.
Pure Algae Denmark, Maripure, Dansk Tang, Kerteminde Seafarm, and Blue Food shared insights on land-based cultivation in open and closed systems, nearshore farming, and offshore cultivation. Teis Boderskov from Aarhus University led an exciting workshop on hatchery technology, where we explored the seaweed life cycle using stereomicroscopes.
The workshop took place in Havnsø, where we also had the pleasure of hearing from Mogens Pedersen, an upcoming seaweed farmer, coastal fisherman, and owner of Havnsø Fisk restaurant, about local developments and future opportunities for seaweed production in the area. In collaboration with Havhøst, permission has been granted to establish offshore seaweed plots, and Swedish company KOASTAL, responsible for the setup, shared insights into their part of the work.
Thanks to everyone who participated and contributed with knowledge, ideas, and great discussions.
