SMARTTANG

SMARTTANG addresses the three biggest challenges in the production of sugar kelp in Denmark: the need for 1) greater area efficiency, 2) mechanization of handling kelp deployment on farming systems, and harvesting, and 3) post-harvest stabilization and use of the kelp. Cultivating kelp on nets instead of lines will be tested to improve area yield efficiency. Within the project, we wish to integrate kelp production with existing mussel production using Smartfarm pipe+net systems and Easy Farm harvesting technology to make the cultivation scalable and manageable.

SMART TANG focuses primarily on the production of seaweed, but also encompasses the entire value chain for the production of fermented seaweed for pig feed and food ingredient for seaweed snacks.
