Mother*** wind farms

“Motherfucking wind farms” is being shouted, crispy seaweed snacks are crunched – and Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson stands out as the frontman in Vattenfall’s bold new campaign. At the center of attention are Danish seaweed, Danish snacks, Danish know-how – and an ambition to show how fossil-free electricity production can interact with nature below the sea’s surface.

The campaign aims to challenge the common perception of what an offshore wind farm is and can be. By showing how the same sea area can be used to produce both fossil-free energy and sustainable food, Vattenfall wants to open a broader perspective for the next step in the expansion of offshore energy production.

Growing seaweed and other food at offshore wind farms is a clever way to utilise the marine area, and it helps to protect and promote biodiversity. Here, different companies can share space, infrastructure and services. It’s a win-win and reduces both fuel consumption and costs. Snacks made from seaweed are just one tangible example of how energy production and nature can coexist. With Samuel L. Jackson, we have a voice that spurs curiosity so that we reach even more people with the message about the exciting perspectives for offshore wind in the future” says Helle Herk-Hansen, Head of Environment at Vattenfall. The seaweed that the crispy seaweed snacks are made of is sugar kelp grown as part of WIN@sea’s activities in Vattenfall’s Vesterhav Syd wind farm near Hvide Sande – “Serious gourmet s***!!”
