On October, In AlgaeCenter Denmark’s network, which now includes 52 members—covering the entire seaweed value chain—we have many passionate individuals working for the ocean by using seaweed in a variety of ways. Some cultivate seaweed both on land and in water, others develop seaweed-based products, and some sell seaweed directly to consumers and businesses.
This year’s business network meeting, held the day after our Nordic Seaweed Conference, focused on “Seaweed and Ecosystem Restoration”—a topic that reflects the growing interest in how seaweed can contribute to a more sustainable future for both the ocean and society.
In addition to eight intensive pitches from our network members—Pure Algae Denmark, Maripure, Dansk Algeplast, Havsmag, OceanWide Seaweed ApS, bluefood, Kerteminde Seafarm, and blærettang—showcasing how each of their companies contributes to the ocean in their own way, we had the great pleasure of hearing inspiring presentations from Seabreak and Earthbreak, both driven by the same mission: to do something good for the ocean.
Peter Vangsbo, Director of Climate and Sustainability, and Annette Bruhn, Senior Scientist at the Department of Ecoscience, Aarhus University, wrapped up the day with inspiring perspectives on how research and industry can work hand in hand to promote seaweed as a solution for both sustainable production and ecosystem restoration.
