Land-based cultivation system

The system consists of 12 tanks of each 2 m3. The tanks are supplied from two separate water systems enabling us to compare production based on two different water qualities – for instance high and low nutrient concentration.

In addition, we can vary the incoming light by use of lids.

The system can run with full recirculation of the water or as a flow-through system.

The water used in the system is seawater from the Kattegat, supplied from the Kattegatcentre via their seawater intake and filtration system.

Several species has been cultivated in the tanks – sea lettuce (Ulva sp.), dulse (Palmaria palmata), nori (Porphyra sp.), sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima), finger kelp (Laminaria digitata) and spaghetti algae (Chaetomorpha linum).
