Off-shore cultivation site

In the open Kattegat, just two nautical miles north-east of Karlby Klint you find the most exposed site for seaweed cultivation in Denmark. Since 2016, AlgaeCenter Denmark has had the licence from the Danish Coastal Authorities to cultivate macroalgae in the area.

The seaweed cultivated here is mainly sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima), but also production of finger kelp (Laminaria digitata), dulse (Palmaria palmata) and sea lettuce (Ulva sp.) has been succesfully tested.
